Weekend in Canmore

Matt returned from Germany last week and we spent 3 nights in Canmore in the Rockies enjoying some walking.  This was our first experience walking in this area - we had to carry bear spray and read up on what to do in event of an attack from a bear or cougar!!  Luckily neither happened and it is well documented this would be very unusual.  We were very lucky to see a young grizzly bear crossing the road - this was after seeing some mountain goats and big horned sheep.  This bear just happily wandered over the road.  The first walk we did ended in the snow line so we had to turn back which was a shame - snow in June - crazy.  The views were just beautiful though most of the walk was in the forest (where the bears live!!!!).  Our second walk was around Canmore which also gave us great views of the surrounding mountains.  On this walk we saw some deer and squirrels.
We went to Calgary for Saturday night and went out for a very tasty steak dinner - after spending the day in a local mall where there is a shop which sells all hunting stuff like guns and crossbows.  But also large man-sized BBQ's and clothing.
Matt is back at work this week so very busy getting ready for the next exercise.  The bank has been busy as lots of temporary staff about which is keeping us all busy!  Only 6 weeks until our next holiday in Nova Scotia - but hopefully we will get away for a weekend over the coming weeks.
