Off to the Commanders house for dinner
We have had a busy week - last weekend we went to Calgary for a spot of shopping and then a concert at the Stampede ground, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Snow Patrol. Excellent concert but weirdly the stadium was half empty, so we ended up with better seats.
On Monday we went to the Mess for 3 MERCIAN Battle Group Cocktail Party (a thank you to all BATUS staff that helped them). The Fijian contingent from 3 MERCIAN Regiment performed a Haka to us followed by songs of loyalty to the British Army and thanks to God etc. In other words lots of young half naked men dancing and singing - a great evening! And a curry supper to top it off.
On Tuesday we were invited to a Best of British BBQ (though it was pie and mash) and fancy dress was the order of the day. I was asked at the last minute to join the Spice Girls as Sporty (after 2 men had declined the role) as I had not organised myself enough to get an outfit. It was a good night with excellent food (again) and there were loads of people there we knew.
Then Halloween on Wednesday and we had a handful of the village children around trick or treating - but lots of left overs. If we had known we would have so many sweets left over we would have bought nicer sweets! The children made a great effort with costumes though after the first few we regretted encouraging them with the decorations etc so next year we will go out!
Thursday night was dinner at Matt's Commander's house - a handful of people invited and its a welcome to his new staff. We had a lovely Gurkha curry and the wine flowed. For some reason the CO chose to make it fancy dress so we had to dress up. We knew a few people there so a pleasant night was had. A quiet weekend now which is a treat after such a busy week - Matt has been really busy with work so he will enjoy a lie in tomorrow!
