We have had a few busy weeks lately.  I am a volunteer on the SSAFA committee here in the village and it was decided that this year we would hand make the sausages for the bonfire night event as this was more cost effective than buying them.  Using my specialist sausage making equipment we made 601 (exactly) which was enough to cover the event itself and a goodwill day for the workshop staff in February, where we offer 'sausage in a bun and a brew' for a donation.  Needless to say, the sausages were delicious!!

The weather is now getting rather cold and we have had our first snowfall which coincided with Remembrance Day parade - so lots of blankets and hats were evident during the service as it was held outside this year.  It was a lovely service and we had a helicopter fly over scattering poppies which was quite touching.

Last weekend we went to a fancy dress party held by 29 Flight Army Air Corps (like the Best of British party we went to last year).  Matt and I, with our friends Lyndsay and Paul decided to go in Halloween costume and Lyndsay did our makeup.  Although not many people attended it was a really good night and we all felt the worse for wear on Sunday. I can tell by the picture how late it was by the colour of the Bacardi Breezer I am clutching!

Matt has had a few hockey games, his team lost to the ladies Devils team last week (such a shame!) though to be fair the girls had all 2nd years playing who were very good.  The picture above is from yesterdays game of Icemen Vs Flyers.  I assisted Lyndsay with the scoring (you get to sit in a small warm room with hot chocolate!) and we were bemused at the spectacle of the Icemen Captain having a 'tantrum' and throwing his gloves on the ice and storming off in the last minute.  I think he made his point!
I have started ice skating lessons on Saturdays just to improve my skating in general and hopefully learn to stop (this skill still eludes me).   No tantrums during these lessons, just a lot of falling about.

We are off to Calgary this weekend for a spot of shopping and to browse the Christmas markets.  I am enjoying this week off (a pleasant change as been working full time due to staff leaving etc) so keeping busy making (more) quilts and have become a real regular in the local quilt shops!  My friend Hilary and I did a free-motion quilting class recently to learn to 'quilt' our own quilt tops -  this is a very hard skill to learn so although we understand the principle I think many hours of practise are required to be able to quilt anything larger than a table runner.  But we enjoyed meeting other quilters and swapping useful tips.

I have booked our Christmas/New Year leave break in the Rockies (again) where we will be skiing and hopefully catching up with friends.  Most of the village are going to Whitefish in the USA, but as we have the cats we can only really go as far as Canmore.  We will stay in the village for Christmas day and head up to Canmore on the 27th December.
